Benevolence:

The virtue of understanding that people have their own goals and desires, and promoting opportunities for cooperation by making interaction valuable, pleasant, and easy.

Benevolent actions always involve benefiting someone else. For this reason, benevolence is often confused with altruism, the system of ethics that promotes self-sacrifice for the benefit of others. Benevolence does not involve actual sacrifice, though, and is fully compatible with an ethics of rational self-interest.
